Provincials

Team Rankin headed up to Grande Prairie for the Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts in late Januaury. We had a bit of a rough start losing our first 2 games, but then came around and ended up finishing 5th overall in the province. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to take any photos but there were some memories made and experiences to take into our next year.

Congratulations to Cheryl Bernard, Susan O'Connor, Caroline Darbyshire, & Cori Bartel for winning the province. We will all be supporting you at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Lethbridge. It begins Feb 17 with the final on Feb 25. Go here to follow along or get more info about the event.

As for our next event, we are playing a bit of a waiting game now. It depends on various teams who are playing the Scotties. Currently we are sitting in 14th place on the CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System). The top 16 teams get to play in the Player's Championship in April. We are keeping our fingers crossed and just have to wait and see if we are meant to play in that event. I'll keep you updated next month as to our status.

February Updates

Mercury is going retrograde on Feb 13 until March 7, 2007. This is happening in Pisces so be prepared for foggy judgement, inability to see details clearly and misunderstandings with communication. Double check your work for accuracy, do not make major decisions if possible and be sure that you are saying exactly what you mean. At the same time, for some people this retrograde allows us time to focus on our fantasies and what we want to accomplish. It is not a time for setting goals, but a great time to think about what the big picture looks like.

The New Moon occurs in Aquarius on Feb 17 at 9:15am MST. This gives us an opportunity to think about our hopes and dreams. This is a great time to reflect on humanitarian issues such as volunteering or making a difference in your community. How would you feel if you were able to help someone else? Are you doing your part in helping the world become more aware?

Valentine's Day is also this month so don't forget about your sweetheart. If you don't have a sweetheart, you can still make someone's day special.

Let's look closer at the myth of St. Valentine. One legend describes Valentine as a priest in the third century in Rome . It is said that Emperor Claudius II banned marriage for young men because they made better soldiers if they were single, that is, without wives and families. Valentine deeply disagreed with this law and continued to secretly perform marriages for young men and women. When Valentine was discovered by the Emperor he was put to death. Another story describes Valentine as an inmate in a harsh Roman prison. It suggests that he sent the first "valentine" to a young woman whom he had fallen in love with while in prison. Just before his death, he sent the letter to her signed "your Valentine", a common expression used in many cards, candy, and teddy bears today. The truth to these legends has yet to be entirely discovered, but the idea of such heroism and romance will never let Valentine die.

February: Aquarius

The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19 – February 18. Aquarians have strong and attractive personalities.  There are generally two types of Aquarians: one is shy and gentle; the other is enthusiastic and lively. Regardless of the outer presentation, they are all strong willed and seek truth above all else. They are one of the most unprejudiced and tolerant signs in the zodiac and can change their mind several times if there is evidence to support they should. They believe in seeing all sides to a story, even if they don’t agree they will still listen and are ready to learn from everyone. If anyone has had the privilege to know an Aquarian you will understand that they are unique. By this I mean they don’t follow the crowd – in fact, they don’t care what the crowd thinks and often go against them intentionally “just to be different”. They prefer not to have others interfere with their lives and will accept it only on their terms when they are good and ready. Among their faults, they may not express their true feelings to anyone they don’t trust and often make promises they can’t keep.

Relationships

In spite of their often magnetic personality they do not make friends easily. This may be because they just don’t take the time to get to know someone who doesn’t appeal to them. Others may even consider them cold because they don’t open up very easily, but once they decide you are worthy of their friendship they will give everything and be faithful for life.  Because of this all or nothing attitude, they can be disappointed when others fail to meet their high expectations. If this occurs, you will rarely meet an Aquarian who forgives easily.

Health Problems

Aquarius rules the legs from the knees to the ankles as well as blood circulations. They commonly have problems with the knees and ankles such as cramping, spasms, and nervous complaints. This sign also has an emphasis on the heart regarding circulation so they should try to stick to a low-fat diet and regular exercise in order to prevent hardening of the arteries which is common in this sign.
